my dublab debut + some selectz
I’m not much of a manifest-er but it’s been very cool to see my desire to return to radio become appearances on 3 different stations (in 3 different cities). From The Lot’s iconic shipping container to BFF.fm’s Secret Alley to dublab’s sleek, converted LADWP building, community radio spaces are sacred & vital. I’m fresh off the heels of my first BFF.fm show in 4 years but, first, I wanted to share my dublab set from last weekend. It aired at midnight so there’s a good chance you didn’t listen!
I’ve been thinking of each station as a slightly different vibe. For this dublab set, I focused on dreamy and hazy aesthetics across genres. Spanning new age/jazz, trip-hop/shoegaze, hazy house and dreamy breaks, I’m really proud of these 2 hours and hope it’s a cohesive listen. You can find the tracklist here.

Nadah El Shazly - “Eid”
Nadah El-Shazly is one of the most interesting artists I’ve found in my explorations of the Egyptian diaspora. I first discovered the Cairo-born, Montreal-based artist via 3Phaz, her co-producer on this project, who is best known for his ground-breaking-and-shaking experimental club music. Laini Tani [Spotify / Apple Music] sees his powers transformed into something more understated, which, when paired with Nadah’s at-times chilling vocals, make for a heady listen. Miru Shinoda - “Good Morning Mr. Kishida”
I came across Miru Shinoda’s incredible new EP Pressure Field via Loraine James who was playing a show with him in Japan. It’s a glitchy and surprisingly catchy masterpiece that evokes the Flying Lotus, Low End Theory era. This track is incredible and I’m plotting on how to fit it into a club set…
maya ongaku - Meiso Ongaku 3
Japanese band maya ongaku make psychedelic, hypnotizing music that oscillates between deeply peaceful and slightly disconcerting. I’m not into jam bands but I could watch these guys do their thing for quite a while. Their KEXP set is a must-watch…
Shabjdeed & Al Nather - “Rad Saree3” (feat. Riyadiyat)
Palestinian artists Al Nather and Shabjdeed have built something beautiful with their BLTMN label. I spent some time working through their output recently and this track is such a cool mix of blissed-out dance music production with incredibly smooth vocal delivery.
